About the Project

The Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Water and Environment of Uganda has been implementing the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Capacity Development and Projects Support Project, with financial support from the Government of Belgium through the Belgian Development Agency (BTC) in Uganda.

The aim of the intervention, which as of December 2015 is in its closing phase, was to strengthen the capacity of Ugandan public and private entities in identifying and implementing CDM projects; thus contribute to sustainable economic development of Uganda. The Project included hands-on capacity building of up to eight Ugandan consultants, in all stages of the CDM project development cycle.

Activities of the project

The project involved or continues to carry out the following key activities:

Capacity Building through the CDM School

The project will recruited Six Ugandans (and two of these were later replaced by others on dropping out) to be trained as CDM consultants by receiving on-the-job training by the project experts in all aspects of the CDM Project cycle development and implementation of CDM projects in Uganda. The trainees received hands-on CDM training in all aspects from the preparation of Project Idea Notes (PINs), drafting of Project Design Documents (PDDs), Validation for registration, to monitoring and verification. Five of the trainees completed the two-year training at the end of September 2014. The CDM School was closed at the end of September 2014, with the former trainees being recruited as CDM Project Officers.
